Ingredients

  • 2.5 tsp Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning, (more to taste)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 yellow onion, diced

  • 1 head of minced garlic (or to taste)

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1-2 tsp red pepper, to taste

  • 1 lb hot Italian sausage, can sub mild

  • 1 lb lean ground beef

  • 28oz marinara sauce

  • 1 lb ziti pasta

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cups mozzarella, more to taste

  • 3/4 cup parmesan, plus more for topping

  • Fresh parsley

  • Clear

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F
  2. Boil your noodles in heavily salted water, 2 minutes less than package instructions (al dente). Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add in your onion, pinch of salt, Italian seasoning, and red pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes. Add in your garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 min.
  4. Add in your sausage and beef (you might need to increase the heat here a bit). Season with 2 tsp Tony’s.
Brown and cook until no longer pink.
  5. Add in your marinara and stir to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Reduce heat to low and simmer.
  6. While your sauce is simmering, combine your ricotta, egg, mozzarella, parmesan, and remaining Tony’s. Stir until everything is fully combined. Add in about a ladle or two of your sauce followed by your cooked ziti. Fold everything together.
  7. In a 9×13″ baking dish, add a thin layer of your sauce followed by half of your noodle mixture. Top with half of your remaining sauce, followed by half of your remaining cheese. Repeat once more: noodles, sauce, cheese.
Sprinkle parmesan over the top and bake for 15 minutes and then finish under the broiler for 5 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh parsley, more parmesan, and enjoy!
